The Joshua Trust mission is ‘making future leaders’ who are self-disciplined, have high moral values and leads ethically, thereby establishing worthy role-models for the youth of today and tomorrow. The leadership programmes that the Joshua Trust presents are primarily aimed at the Joshua Generation (20 to 40 year olds); training, enabling and developing young members firstly from the Security Cluster (Police, Defence and Correctional Services), then from the private, and corporate sectors, primarily from southern Africa, to become self-disciplined transformational servant leaders. Where there is capacity; these opportunities are also open to young people not from the security cluster. Many young people start their early work-life in the security cluster and then either make a career in one of these forces or follow a different career path. By The Joshua Trust focusing on this niche market it invests in the next generation leadership of the Security Cluster as well as business and industry.
The Joshua Trust brand leader, Warrior Training, is a leadership development programme run over a period of 4 days, (4 nights) which bridges the gap from theoretical to experiential training and has been designed to unleash participants’ leadership potential by instilling value based decision making, moral values and work ethics; It gives the participants a variety of skills needed for effective team leadership such as introspection; effective communication; small group facilitation; problem solving, value based decision making and team leadership. Training is structured to ensure that participants from past courses are further developed to be mentors, trainers and leaders on future courses aiding the experiential learning of new participants as well as their own further development. This systematically takes them on a journey of developing into confident competent leaders. Three Warrior Training events have been run since 2012, with young people from four southern African countries trained thus far.
The Advanced Leaders’ Training is the next level of leadership training being offered primarily to individuals who have completed Warrior Training, but is available to all.
Advanced Leaders’ Training is a 2 day (2 nights) course which is presented by professional facilitators who have developed a customised, outcomes-based leadership and team building adventure programme where each participant will receive individual feedback to design his/her personal leadership development plan. Participants will also receive tools that will empower them to better understand self and others; advancing good leadership to great leadership! Those that have completed the Advanced Leaders’ course will be considered to be part of the future Warrior Training mentors’ and leadership teams. The first Advanced Leaders’ training was successfully completed the beginning of July 2015.
The training and development programmes offered by The Joshua Trust, namely Warrior Training and Advanced Leaders’ Training are founded on proven leadership theory and principles. This provides the young leaders with a sound understanding of leadership theory; the gap between theory and practice is bridged through experiential exercises.
Past participants are making a positive impact in their work, social and civil environments and many becoming employees of choice by the leadership of their organisations.
The Joshua Trust is an ideal Corporate Social Investment partner for any organisation looking at investing in the future of South Africa and southern Africa, instilling ethical leadership in the future leaders of the Military, Police and Correctional Services.
